Aim Athlete Chats: Jo Carollo
It’s postseason time for our Aim high school athletes, and we wanted to share a little inside scoop about them as they hit the field for playoffs in the 41st Midwest Field Hockey State Tournament. Next up is U19 Athlete, Jo Carollo.
Jo is a senior on the St. Joseph’s Academy field hockey team, and she holds the team together as their center midfielder. Not only is she quick with her stick skills, but she is also a steady and calm captain, guiding her team with exceptional talent and leadership. As center mid for her Angels, she relies on her vision and accurate passes to connect with teammates and generate quicker attacks.
She reflected on how each year she has played for St. Joe that the bonds she has with her teammates is so strong on and off the field. But, this year holds another level of nostalgia since she knows it is her last with the Angels before she heads to Harvard University next fall.
“This team stands out, because everyone has such an intense desire to win,” Jo said. “We are constantly offering constructive criticism and repeatedly stating our goal to win the state championship. Every win or loss strengthens our hope to achieve this dream. We often like to be seen as a team who has the most fun, but we want to be known as a successful team as well.”
Jo has been a constant presence at Aim for many seasons, representing our squads with her smart decision-making, composed style of play, and sharp shots. She said Aim has helped her improve her mental strength and know that she constantly has more to give on and off the field.
As she and her Angels move forward in the tournament, she enters the Final Four game today at SportPort against Villa with a determination to win and excitement to show everyone what they are capable of.
“Everyone is fighting to survive and the games are always so intense to play in,” she said. “This year, I am really excited to prove how good St. Joe is. The season can end so quickly so we have to give everything we have and play with no regrets!”
Good luck, Jo! We cannot wait to see you show your skill in the Final Four today at 5:30pm! To view our other stories, please visit our news tab on our website.
