The 2013 National Field Hockey Festival brings thousands of field hockey players together each year for 31 fields full of competition! This event, which takes place over the Thanksgiving holiday, is the world’s most popular amateur field hockey tournament. Athletes from all over the U.S. and Canada choose to forego the traditional Thanksgiving meal to be with their teammates, competing on the national front in warm weather.
Traditionally, Festival has been for U16s, U19s and adults only. This year, USAFH opened the tournament to the U14 age division. So, Aim was fortunate enough to bring all three age groups to West Palm Beach, FL.
It was a very successful tournament for Aim. Our overall record for the club was 14-3-1. The U19 and U16 teams were both undefeated in each of their 6 games and finished 1st place in their pools. The U16s dominated their pool, scoring 41 goals and only getting scored on once in 6 games. This is the first time in Aim history that two Aim teams have medaled at a single tournament!
The event was a fantastic experience for our U14s. This age group has been able to compete nationally more frequently, having attended the National Club Championships, the National Indoor Tournament, and now the Festival in 2013. The team, coached by Lynsey Porter, won 3 games and lost 3 games. They played well as a unit and proved that they are ready for more competition outside of St. Louis!
